98.5Mhz COMMUNITY FM RADYO KAIGSOONAN
MUNICIPALITY OF ZAMBOANGUITA, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL

History

On 4 November 2010, MQ Mediazone Productions facilitated the forging of a Memorandum of Agreement between the National Nutrition Council (NNC) and the Municipality of Zamboanguita to put up a Nutriskwela community radio station, now known as 98.5 Mhz Radyo Kaigsoonan Community FM. Kaigsoonan is a Cebuano word for brethren.

Zamboanguita is a 4th class municipality in Negros Oriental with a population of 23,338 (2000 census). The residents’ primary sources of livelihood are farming and fishing.

The high incidence of malnutrition among Zamboanguita’s pre-school children qualified the town as beneficiary of the NNC Nutriskwela Community Radio project.

And, coincidentally, the NNC Nutriskwela project is in consonance with the Zamboanguita LGU priority agenda – the provision of basic health services.

The NNC-Zamboanguita LGU MOA was signed by NNC Executive Director Assistant Secretary Maria-Bernardita T. Flores and Zamboanguita Mayor Kit Marc Adanza.

Mayor Adanza believes that emergency response during calamities and the promotion of peace and order can effectively be realized via a fast and centralized communication medium. Carrying out these advocacies through a community radio station would best serve the interest of Zamboanguita.

Radyo Kaigsoonan is at the 2nd level of the Zamboaguita Public Market.
