PALAWAN STATE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, CORON PALAWAN

History

On 17 December 2010, MQ Mediazone Productions facilitated the forging of Memorandum of Agreement between the National Nutrition Council (NNC), Palawan State University (PSU), and the Bintuan Progressive Multi-purpose Cooperative (BPMC) to put up a Nutriskwela community radio station, now known as 97.3 Mhz Radyo Kasimanwa Community FM. Kasimanwa means community in the Kuyunon dialect spoken in Coron, Palawan.

The PSU pioneers in providing higher learning in Palawan. Founded in 1972, it has the distinction of being the first educational institution in the province to have the university status being conferred on it by the government. PSU has sixteen campuses scattered all over the province. Including the one in the Municipality of Coron where Radyo Kasimanwa is located.

The BPMC, meanwhile, was established to promote productivity and livelihood in Barangay Bintuan, one of the oldest barangays in Coron, Palawan.

The BPMC helps villagers to earn additional family income through swine raising and marketing and also serves as the outlet and distributor of feeds to maintain stock quality. o cost.

The NNC-PSU-BPMC MOA was signed by NNC Executive Director, Assistant Secretary Maria-Bernardita T. Flores, PSU President Dr. Teresita Salva and BPMC Chair Alfonso Balane Jr.

Aside from broadcasting nutrition and health information, Radyo Kasimanwa will also be utilized for PSU’s academic extension and training programs.

Hands on Training

A training-workshop was conducted 19-21 December 2010. Initially, there were 29 participants, mostly from the education sector. However, on the second day, the number increased to 68 representing other sectors of society and multi-sectoral groups, including PSU students interested to do apprentice work.

The 3-day schedule of activities covered detailed presentations on Radio Community Broadcasting with emphasis on broadcasting tools and their actual applications, including writing for news, radio plugs, reporting and a discussion on the Broadcast Code of Ethics. Test broadcasts were held simultaneously with the hands-on training

On the last day of the training-workshop, participants elected officers to Community Radio Council (CRC). These officers were sworn in by NNC-MQ Mediazone Productions Nutriskwela Project Team Leader.
