History

On 22 December 2010, MQ Mediazone Productions facilitated the forging of a Memorandum of Agreement between the National Nutrition Council (NNC) and the Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU) to put up a Nutriskwela community radio station, now known as 98.9 Mhz Radyo Katilingban Community FM. Katilingban means community in the local dialect.

SKSU was formerly called Sultan Kudarat Polytechnic State College. The University is mandated to provide professional and technical training in Science and Technology, advanced and specialized instruction in literature, philosophy, arts and sciences. It is also mandated to promote scientific and technological researches.

The NNC-SKSU MOA was signed by NNC Executive Director, Assistant Secretary Maria-Bernardita T. Flores and SKSU President Teresita L. Cambel, Ed.D.

Radyo Katilingban’s transmitter and studio is located at the SKSU Access campus in Tacurong City.

Hands-on-Training

A training-workshop was conducted 17-19 January 2011. The 35 participants included representatives from the academe, law enforcement, youth, labor, and other sectors.

The 3-day schedule of activities covered detailed presentations on Radio Community Broadcasting with emphasis on broadcasting tools and their actual applications, including writing for news, radio plugs, reporting and a discussion on the Broadcast Code of Ethics. Test broadcasts were held simultaneously with the hands-on training

On 18 January, Radyo Katilingban was blessed and inaugurated coinciding with the celebration of SKSU’s Foundation Day and the Investiture of Teresita L. Cambel, Ed.D. as first president of the university.

After the training-workshop 19 January, the participants elected from among themselves officers to Community Radio Council (CRC) while President Cambel appointed the station personnel from present employees of the university.

The CRC officers and Radyo Katilingban station personnel, were inducted by NNC-NIED Chief Ms. Nerissa P. Babaran.
