97.3 Mhz COMMUNITY FM RADYO KALUMONAN
SAN ISIDRO DAVAO ORIENTAL

History

On 4 November 2010, MQ Mediazone Productions facilitated the forging of a Memorandum of Agreement between the National Nutrition Council (NNC), the Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST), and the Kalumonan Development Center Incorporated (KDCI) to put up a Nutriskwela community radio station, now known as 97.3 Mhz Radyo Kalumonan Community FM. Kalumonan is a Cebuano word for brotherhood.

Formerly Mati Community College, DOSCST was established on December 13, 1989. It is located in the Davao Oriental provincial capital Mati. Its satellite campus in the Municipality of San Isidro houses the broadcast studio.

KDCI is a local non-government organization which focuses on livelihood development projects for farmers, fisherfolk, Muslim communities, and the poor.

The NNC-DOSCST-KDCI MOA was signed by NNC Executive Director, Assistant Secretary Maria-Bernardita T. Flores, DOSCST President Grace Lopez, Ph.D., and KDCI President Justina Yu.

Under the agreement, DOSCST and the KDCI shall operate and maintain Radyo Kalumonan.

Hands-on-Training

A training-workshop was conducted 7-9 November 2010. The 39 participants included representatives from the LGU, the Philippine National Police, DepEd, and various local business groups.

The 3-day schedule of activities covered detailed presentations on Radio Community Broadcasting with emphasis on broadcasting tools and their actual applications, including writing for news, radio plugs, reporting and a discussion on the Broadcast Code of Ethics. Test broadcasts were held simultaneously with the hands-on training

On the last day of the training-workshop, the participants elected from among themselves officers to the Community Radio Council (CRC), namely:
