History

On 4 November 2010, MQ Mediazone Productions facilitated the forging of a Memorandum of Agreement between the National Nutrition Council (NNC), the City of Isabela, Basilan, and the United Evangelical Church of Isabela-Volunteer Firefighters and Rescue Group (UECI-VFF-Rescue) to put up a Nutriskwela community radio station, now known as 97.5 Mhz Radyo Komunidad Community FM.

Headed by Dr. Emmanuel Tan, UECI-VFF-Rescue is a civic organization in the City of Isabela made up of mostly professionals and businessmen committed to help and serve the city.

Radyo Komunidad is located on the 3rd floor of the Tan building in the city proper.

The NNC-Isabela City LGU-UECI-VFF-Rescue MOA was signed by NNC Executive Director Assistant Secretary Maria-Bernardita T. Flores, Isabela City Mayor Cherrylyn Santos-Akbar and UECI-VFF-Rescue President Dr. Emmanuel Tan.

The establishment of Radyo Komunidad in Isabela City is seen as an invaluable contribution to government and civic efforts to disseminate developmental, nutrition and health information to Basilan’s far flung barangays and nearby towns.

Hands-on-Training

A training-workshop was conducted 15-17 November 2010. The 36 participants included representatives from civil society groups, local cooperatives and business groups, Muslim religious leaders, Catholic Church, and the LGU.

The 3-day schedule of activities covered detailed presentations on Radio Community Broadcasting with emphasis on broadcasting tools and their actual applications, including writing for news, radio plugs, reporting and a discussion on the Broadcast Code of Ethics. Test broadcasts were held simultaneously with the hands-on training

On the last day of the training-workshop, Mayor Santos-Akbar issued an executive order appointing the officers of the Community Radio Council (CRC) and the personnel who will manage and operate the radio station.
